Technology is on the up and up and who knows where it is going to stop. Technology has become one of the fastest growing things in our day and age. New and more high tech things are added to the internet each day. No one can keep up with the new things being produced now a day. Schools are converting day by day to new technology, like the use of laptops in the classroom. I feel that schools will have to invest more and more money to computers than actual text books do to the advances in technology. Students are going home after school and using new technology like , computers, Ipads, and Ipod touches just to name a few. As a future educator I tend to check up the new devices that come out pretty often and try to see if I can use them so that when it comes time I can easily teach my students.
I feel that technology like Wikis and drop box will be used in the classroom very soon. We use them in college but I feel that they will be used in elementary schools very soon. I was reading in one of the local News Papers that one school will be purchasing Ipads for a class experiment to see if the class can actually use them effectively in the classroom. I feel that the Ipad will be beneficial for elementary and high school students because, it will keep them interested and I believe they will interact more with each other with these devices.

The future of the web and where to next, the web is expanding every day and more and more new and exciting things are becoming developed each day. What use to be teaching is not teaching today? Teachers use to use a chalk board and a piece of chalk to teach each subject. Now that computers and web are now available for the use of teaching each subject. Each day new teaching resources are being added to the web for teaching use. I see the programs being used when I do my observations. When the students are done doing their classwork they were able to go to the computers and work on a math educational game. Each time a correct answer was inserted a tiny character would advance until you got ten questions right, then you would move on to the next level in the game. The questions were also timed so that it would make them work a little more efficiently and gear them to the timed testing situation. There is also a program through the Longwood school district; it helps students with Math, Science, English and Social Studies. I have seen it used in the fourth and fifth grade levels and it was very helpful and the students loved being able to work with them. Students now a day are more technologically smart then the teachers and they can surf the web and find anything they want easier than most of their teachers, this creates a problem in the class and means the teachers have some work to do.

Wikis, where do I even start, my first experience with these things was a horrible, I hated them. I used them a State And Local Government class, and we would have to post an article and a response and it was just a mess. It was so poorly constructed and maintained by the professor. He separated a huge page name by name so there was a huge mess of work on one page, and it was so hard to read and understand. So when going into this chapter I already had a bad taste in my mouth and knew what I thought about these Wikis already. I did not find them one bit helpful.
Then stepping into Technology and Education I found out the real capabilities of the wiki. The construction of the pages was neat and orderly and made for easy access and easy capability to use. I felt like it is an easier way to see an assignment and grade it also since all of the classes assignments are all together and separated by their names. It is more organized then having each student hand in a piece of paper and having to keep them in order and neatly organized. When I become a teacher I know students will be more technology smart then myself so I will try to have them send me their assignments through a wiki. It was also give them a way to decorate and get involved in something new.
Virtual environments, I have not heard a lot about them since I have read through this chapter. When I first saw the name of the chapter i became excited and enthused. Kids love the virtual world and what it has to offer each game kids play has to do with the virtual world. Computers have become the biggest part of a students life, each day the student uses the computer, navigating and learning in a virtual world un like in the previous years of chalk on the chalk board.
Going through the chapter, I went into research some of the sites listed and I went onto torley.com, this site was very impressive. Reading through I clicked on an image and music came on. This music is from a piano from a well known artist it was to explain the picture on the page and have you think about it and depict it. This makes the student make an interprutation of their own with the music and actual picture.
I then went onto secondlife.com and it was a virtual world like the game the sims. You were able to create a virtual life and do as you wanted. Choose what you do for a career and who you marry. This could be good for students to become familiar with the keyboard and what they have to look forward to in the real world. The most important thing is that the students will be forced to make decisions in the game; this will prepare them for what lies ahead for them.

Chapter 6
Let’s start by saying that each day we take part in visual learning. Televisions, computer, cell phones and hand held are everyday pieces of technology all students use. These pieces of technology have the capabilities of the new technology which is, YouTube, photo sites and online presentation tools. The movement from paper and pen to computers and technology is emerging at a rapid pace each day. The smart board has become one of the best visuals aids for students. You get each and every student involved and interacting with each other while using this visual aid. Also using Power Points is another form of visual learning, I find students are more involved and are more open minded to actually learn something while they are having fun.
As a visual learner, I become more involved and find it easier to learn when there are Power Points on the board instead of chalk and a chalkboard. While using a Power Point or a Prezi you can incorporate a YouTube link onto the slides. Videos on YouTube draw the students in because, they find it as a break from writing and an ability to sit back watch and learn. While observing 5th grade students I was able to see this first hand, each student would come up to the smart board sit in front of it and pay close attention to the video that was being shown on the screen. After watching the video the teacher would ask the students questions relating to the video and each student was able to raise their hands and answer each question. So I find using a video is an enormous tool to have students learns.

Social Networking has become a big part in Education. Each educator is now using some sort of Social Network to relay information from person to person. Twitter, Facebook and Myspace have emerged to become the largest used Social Networks. I would use a Social Network like Facebook and put my class into a group that no one else could join, so we can relay information to one another while not in the classroom. This could lead into bullying but I think because it will be conducted in a closed group with only the students from the class it would work efficiently.
They have also created more and more websites so teachers and students can interact with one another. I researched a couple of these sites and some do not even work anymore, the access has been taken offline. Learnhub.com is a pretty good one to use when you want to talk to others about going abroad and going to college. You can learn about each person that is studying abroad and how each college student likes each college. I believe that each of the Social Networking tools are beneficial in the classroom and for the teacher because, everything is turning towards computers and technology. This will encourage students to get involved because there is technology being used.

Productivity Applications have made the life of a student so much easier, programs right at the tip of their fingers, just a click away. These specific applications make it easier for students to get the certain things they need. I know in my line of work that the word processing and spread sheet applications are used to their fullest capabilities.
I use each of these applications on a daily basis at work, spreadsheets make it easy to plan out the daily goals that we have to meet each day at work. I for see using spreadsheets in my class room to organize grades and class room activity grades. Grading on a spread sheet is easy to do and it is an easier way for the teacher. Word processor will also be used a lot in the classroom, I know that I will be typing worksheets and paperwork up for each of my students. I also know I will be using a presentation applications in my classroom. As an educator the presentation application gets the students involved in the lesson and they will be learning while having fun.
As a future educator I will have to research and see what specific applications will be beneficial for my class. There are new applications made daily and it is up to the teacher to see which are better than the other. I know I will be using one for presentations and I will use a spread sheet to keep things organized and neat.

I have actually seen a Vodcast on scientist in the rainforest; they were relaying information to us about the rainforest and how it was and what they were seeing. There was a delay in the video each time they spoke but, it was cool that people were actually relaying information to us as they saw it, at that same point and time. As a teacher I would use these Vodcasts because they are very informative and relay the information quickly to the children. These Vodcasts are done in a new exciting way keeping the children involved in the lesson.
I am not too familiar with a Podcast but, from the reading, it seems to be very informative and fun for the children. I would use something like this to teach my students a certain lesson just to change it up in the classroom. Stated in the book it says kids are using these Podcast for presentations in the classroom. I would love to use one of these in the classroom and learn how they are used. I would also want my students to use them to; it would be something different for them. This would help to get the students involved and to help the teacher in the classroom.
I would love to use both Podcasts and Vodcast when I have my own classroom, I feel it is a great way to get information to students, and a way for them to get involved in classroom activity.

But in the classroom this program should not be used because it is to easy for a student to get lost on the web and for them to become combative with one another. I understand that teachers want to keep the students motivated but how much attention can a student have when they are one click away from going to play games or looking at something on Google. As a future educator i will not use twitter to interact with co-workers or students, I do not feel it is the right place at all to do so. I have never used twitter and do not want to start now, I feel all it brings is drama into a persons life.
